Lately, life has been a tad on the stressful side. Between being pregnant, figuring out how to make our new family budget work, and dealing with some illness these past couple days has brought every emotion besides happiness. While life can sometimes derail your plans or cause you to focus on the less than stellar parts of life, we can choose to find happiness. We don't have to wait for it to find us.
Finding happiness doesn't have to be difficult. Happiness brings more happiness so we owe it to ourselves to find it where ever we can. If you just look around, I guarantee you can find a bit of happiness right where you are.
Meditation /Prayer / Quiet Time
It has been proven that spending 10-15 minutes a day in meditation has a beneficial effect. If you have a stressful life, this might be the thing for you. For those of you that are not particularly religious or spiritual, taking a few minutes of quiet time can have just as positive of an effect. Use this time to focus on deep breathing and letting the calmness takeover.
Coffee or Tea Time
Most mornings I have to rush to get my coffee down before my little one gets up. I love it when I can take some time out of my day to slowly enjoy a cup of coffee. Take your time to male your coffee or tea however you like it. Pick your favorite cup to drink from to make the experience a bit nicer.
Take A Nap
I know that with long to-do lists, work, chores, and taking are of kids that there just isn't enough time to get everything done. To make sure we fit it all in, we often end up sacrificing sleep. While we might get one or two items from our list finished, it isn't a good habit to start. Lack of sleep will catch up to you. Do yourself a favor and take a short little nap when you get the opportunity.
Pick Up Some Fresh Flowers
I absolutely love fresh flowers. Even just looking at them at the store make me feel a little bit better inside. I know that fresh flowers can be a splurge, but if you have room in your budget, they are worth every penny. One way to save, is to pick up one type of flower or mix two instead of buying a pre-made bouquet in the floral section.
I really enjoy reading, but find that I don't have as much time for it as I would like. I try to find a few minutes to read an article or page through a magazine. I get to learn something new while taking a few moments for myself.
Listen To Music
I am actually not much for music. I didn't really listen to it growing up and only started really listening when I was in college. For some people, music is a real escape. It can help elevate your mood and if you dance a bit, that doesn't hurt either.
Home Spa Day
I talked about my favorite home spa day products a little while ago. If you have bubble bath or aromatherapy products at home already, go ahead an use them.While bath salts and masks can be a nice addition to a spa day, you can have a relaxing time without buying anything. Take a nice hot bath and relax. Not tub? A shower can be just as relaxing.
I am already thinking about how I might try to do a couple of these things today, while my little one naps. How do you find little bits of happiness during your day?
