It has been a minute since I have done a life lately and a few of you sent me some messages wondering when I would do another one. Thank you so much for letting me know you actually enjoy these posts.
In my last life lately, i had mentioned I started reading again. I’ve read a couple of books but then things were busy with blog life and I didn’t have time. I read the Hygge book in December which was an easy read. I had been working more on expanding my business so I decided I would read some business related books. I was told Gary V had some good books so I downloaded Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook on my kindle. So honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed. I think there were a couple of relevant tips for social media management but for the most part it is already outdated. Now I am about to start Girl, Wash Your Face. If you keep up with books you’ve probably heard about that one. I’m going into reading it without expecting much.
Again, I usually listen to tv while I work on blog stuff. However, I’ve started watching shows that I actually watch with my eyes (lol)! I am currently loving Timeless, Deception, and We The People. We The People makes me feel really glad I decided not to go to law school (Fun fact: I took the LSAT and was pretty close to enrolling in law school in Michigan. So glad there were other things in store for me!)
I love my children but boy do they drive me crazy. It is pretty much a crazy house in here from 6:30 am to 8:00pm. I get a bit of a break when my youngest takes his nap. The rest of the time it is screaming children and a lot of fighting amongst the boys. I thought I would have a couple of years before the pushing and the wrestling would happen. Nope. Ugh another source of stress is finding a school for my youngest. He is only 3 but we need to get him into a structured environment with other kids and adults. If we don’t real school is going to be really difficult for him. Well It isn’t as simple as finding an early learning center and enrolling. You have to find one with open spots, plus it has to be one we can actually afford. The last quote for two half days a week (7 hours a week), was $275 a month. That might not seem like a lot but we only have one full time income and live in a place with a very high cost of living. Yes I make money, but it isn’t consistent and the money could stop coming in tomorrow.
My husband is a busy person. I’m a busy person. Technically we are spending time together right now. Both of us are sitting and working. We are in the same room, which counts for something, right?
This part of life is super, super complicated right now. If you are a blogger, you know the blogging world is kinda getting turned upside down right now. Facebook and Instagram algorithm craziness.. The exposure of engagement groups to brands… YouTube demonetization… A lot of bloggers are moving on to other things. I’m trying to decide how to move forward. Blogging and consulting work is how I make my income, so I have to be very strategic with my next moves. Which, by the way, is causing a lot of stress and sleepless nights. So far I’ve shifted my focus away from Instagram (Instagram is still important but bloggers shouldn’t put all of their eggs in one basket). I’ve started a YouTube channel. I’m working on engaging more with Twitter. Plus I am working on creating better and more useful content on Feisty Green Polka Dot (FGPD).
A Better You
Speaking on the content on FGPD, I have really been loving my A Better You series. You all have given me such great feedback on the series and I am glad it is helping you as much as it has been helping me. So far for the A Better You series we have focused on the physical: drinking more water, sleeping more, eating with intention, and being more active. I want the A Better You series to be well rounded by focusing on both physical and mental wellness. All of that being said, for May the focus is going to be contentment. I thought about sharing some of my issues and why contentment is such a hard thing for me but I am not sure how much value that would add or how valuable it would be to your journey. I will be doing research and writing a post that will be more educational and practical for helping with contentment.
